IGNOU Junior Assistant Typist Selection Process
The selection process for the IGNOU JAT exam includes a written test and a typing skill test. Candidates who qualify for the written test will be called for the typing skill test. The final selection will be based on the merit list prepared on the basis of the candidate’s performance in both tests.

IGNOU JAT Mathematical Abilities Syllabus
The Mathematical Abilities syllabus is divided into several topics, which are as follows:
- Number Systems: This topic covers the computation of whole numbers, decimals, and fractions, along with the relationship between different types of numbers. Candidates must have a good understanding of the number system to solve problems related to this topic.
- Fundamental Arithmetical Operations: This topic includes the percentage, ratio and proportion, square roots, averages, interest (simple and compound), profit and loss, discount, partnership business, mixture and allegation, time and distance, and time and work. Candidates must have a good understanding of these fundamental operations to solve problems related to this topic.
- Algebra: This topic covers the basic algebraic identities of school algebra and elementary surds (simple problems) and graphs of linear equations. Candidates must have a good understanding of algebraic identities and their application to solving problems related to this topic.
- Geometry: This topic includes the familiarity with elementary geometric figures and facts such as a triangle and its various kinds of centers, congruence, and similarity of triangles, circles and its chords, tangents, angles subtended by chords of a circle, and common tangents to two or more circles. Candidates must have a good understanding of these elementary geometric figures and facts to solve problems related to this topic.
- Mensuration: This topic covers the calculation of areas and volumes of different geometric figures such as triangles, quadrilaterals, regular polygons, circles, right prisms, right circular cones, right circular cylinders, spheres, hemispheres, rectangular parallelepiped, and regular right pyramids with triangular or square base. Candidates must have a good understanding of mensuration formulas and their application to solving problems related to this topic.
- Trigonometry: This topic covers trigonometry, trigonometric ratios, complementary angles, height, and distances (simple problems only), and standard identities like sin2θ + Cos2θ=1, etc. Candidates must have a good understanding of trigonometric ratios and identities to solve problems related to this topic.
- Statistics and Probability: This topic covers the use of tables and graphs such as histograms, frequency polygons, bar-diagram, pie-chart, and measures of central tendency such as mean, median, mode, standard deviation, and calculation of simple probabilities. Candidates must have a good understanding of statistical concepts and their application to solving problems related to this topic.
IGNOU JAT Reasoning and General Intelligence
The Reasoning and General Intelligence section of the IGNOU JAT exam will include questions of both verbal and non-verbal types. Candidates will be tested on their ability to analyze and interpret information, and their capacity for problem-solving. The verbal reasoning questions will cover topics such as semantic analogy, trends, drawing inferences, critical thinking, emotional intelligence, social intelligence, coding and decoding, and word building. IGNOU JAT English Language and Comprehension Syllabus
The Hindi/ English Language and Comprehension section of the IGNOU JAT exam will test candidates’ proficiency in vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, and correct usage of words. The section will include questions on spot error, filling in the blanks, synonyms, antonyms, spellings, idioms and phrases, one-word substitution, improvement of sentences, and active/passive voice of verbs. - Software: Windows Operating System including basics of Microsoft Office like MS Word, MS Excel, and PowerPoint, etc.
- Working with the Internet and e-mails: Web Browsing & Searching, Downloading & Uploading, Managing an E-mail Account, e-Banking.
- Basics of networking and cyber security: Networking devices and protocols, Network and information security threats (like hacking, virus, worms, Trojans etc.), and preventive measures.
