JEE Main 2023: The Bombay High Court is set to hear a plea to relax the JEE Main 2023 eligibility criteria for candidates on April 6. The petition requests the National Testing Agency (NTA) to remove the 75 percent eligibility criteria to qualify for the exam. The matter was earlier heard on March 1, and the next hearing is scheduled for today.
What are the JEE Main 2023 eligibility criteria?
As per the JEE Main 2023 information brochure, candidates should have secured at least 75 percent in their Class 12 board exams (for the general category) or should be within the category-wise top 20 percentile. During the Covid pandemic, the eligibility criterion was removed. However, the IITs have now brought back the eligibility criteria of 75 percent marks in Class 12 board exams for admission to NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs
What is the plea about?
The petitioner has requested the removal of the 75 percent eligibility criteria for JEE Main 2023, stating that the marks scored by candidates are not a true reflection of their actual ability. The plea argues that candidates with less than 75 percent marks in Class 12 can score very high marks in the upcoming JEE Main 2023 and denying them a fair chance would affect the future of lakhs of bright students.
