The selection process for UPPSC PCS 2023 includes three stages:
Stage 1: Preliminary Exam

UPPSC PCS 2023 Vacancies
Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) has announced over 170 vacancies for the UPPSC PCS and ACF/RFO exams. The Combined State Services Examination has approximately 170 vacancies, while the requisition for the post of ACF/RFO has not yet been received.

UPPSC PCS 2023 Prelims Exam Pattern
The UPPSC PCS 2023 Preliminary exam will have two compulsory papers. The answer sheets will be on OMR sheets. Each paper will be of 200 marks and two hours duration. Both papers will have multiple-choice questions with 150 and 100 questions respectively.

UPPSC PCS 2023 Exam Penalty Marks
- Paper 2 in the Preliminary Examination is a qualifying paper with a minimum passing score of 33%.
- To be evaluated, candidates must take both papers in the Preliminary Examination. Failure to appear in both papers will result in disqualification.
- For each incorrect answer, one-third of the marks allocated to that question will be deducted as a penalty.
- The merit of the Candidates will be determined based on marks obtained in Paper-I of the Preliminary Examination.
- In order to be considered for the merit/select list, S.C. & S.T. candidates must obtain at least 35% marks in the Preliminary/Main examination. For candidates of other categories, the minimum efficiency standard is 40%. Candidates who do not achieve these minimum marks will be disqualified.
- The Commission will declare fifteen times the number of vacancies in successful candidates for the main examination based on the results of the Preliminary Examination. Three times the number of vacancies shall be called for the interview.

In the Indian National Movement, the candidates are expected to have a synoptic view of the nature and character of the freedom movement, the growth of nationalism, and the attainment of Independence. |
Indian and World Geography | Physical, Social, and Economic Geography of India and the World: In World Geography only a general understanding of the subject will be expected. Questions on the Geography of India will relate to the Physical, Social & Economic Geography of India |
Indian Polity and Governance | Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.:- In Indian Polity, Economics, and Culture, questions will test knowledge of the country’s political system including Panchayati Raj and Community Development, broad features of Economic policy in India, and Indian Culture. |
Economic and Social Development | Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc.:- The candidates will be tested concerning problems and the relationship between Population, Environment, and Urbanisation. General Issues on Environmental ecology, Bio-diversity, and Climate Change – that do not require subject specialization, General awareness of the subject is expected from candidates. |
