Vacancies in Kendriya Vidyalayas 2023: Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs), which are central government schools, are facing a severe shortage of teachers and principals. In a written reply to Rajya Sabha, Minister of State (MoS) for Education Annapurna Devi informed that over 12,000 posts of teachers and principals are currently vacant in KVs across the country. This includes 6,414 posts of primary teachers, 3,176 Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs), and 1,409 Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs).
Recruitment Process of Kendriya Vidyalayas 2023
The minister was replying to a question posed by CM Ramesh about the last recruitment of teachers and principals in KVs and the subject-wise number of vacancies at present, along with the steps taken to fill these vacancies. The minister informed that direct recruitment has been started to fill the vacancies, and the advertisement for direct recruitment was issued by KVS in December last year.
While the recruitment process has started, the shortage of teachers and principals in KVs remains a cause for concern. The central government schools are known for their quality of education, and the shortage of teachers and principals could affect the quality of education provided to the students.

Steps to Address the Issue
The central government has taken some steps to address the shortage of teachers and principals in KVs. The recruitment process has started, and the government is also exploring the possibility of filling vacancies through lateral entry. Under the lateral entry scheme, professionals from various fields can be recruited as teachers and principals in KVs.
Apart from this, the government is also focusing on teacher training and development to improve the quality of education. The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is conducting various training programs for teachers to upgrade their skills and knowledge.
